What is long tail and short tail keywords?

Recommended Posts

Hello Friends,

Short tail keywords are search phrases with only one or words. Their length makes them less specific than searches with more words.

Long tail keywords are those three and four keyword phrases which are very, very specific to whatever you are selling. You see, whenever a customer uses a highly specific search phrase, they tend to be looking for exactly what they are actually going to buy.

Hi Friends,

A short tail keyword is basically a short keyword phrase such as ‘plastic surgery CA’. There are no hard definitions for a short tail keyword, but they are basically general and non specific search phrases.
On the other hand, a long tail keyword phrase is one which is something such as ‘plastic surgery San Francisco Bay area’. It is hyper targeted and are generally longer in length of the phrase as well.

Hi friends,

Short Tail: These are the root keywords that pertain to a particular topic, product or service. Example: “SEO” is a short-tail keyword. It represents a single idea. Short-tail words and phrase have more traffic potential than longer phrases. The downside is that they are harder to rank for in the search engines.

Long Tail: These keywords are extensions of shorter words and phrases. Using the “SEO” example from above, a long-tail keyword might be “affordable SEO services for a small business.” The longer phrases help you attract a very specific audience. It’s also easier to rank well for these phrases, due to the reduced level of competition.
