The main difference between SEM and PPC is that, the former is meant for advertising on search engines only, where as the latter can be search, display (cpc based), affiliate advertising. The only thing common here is that you will be charged only when someone clicks on your ad. Basically, SEM is a type of PPC advertising and both of this fall under Digital Marketing.

The SEM stands for search engine marketing which is a form of Internet marketing. It is one of the best ideas to promote your business and gain lots of traffic on your website. It will increase the visibility of your website in the search engine result page through the paid traffic or advertising.

In other hand, the PPC stands for pay per click that is also a form of internet marketing in which an advertiser pay a fee each time one of their ads is clicked.

The main difference between the PPC and SEM is that in PPC, you will get you in front of your audience quickly, while the SEM will get you steady, long-term traffic.

SEM stands for search engine marketing. It is the process of promoting your website in various search engines to build its popularity and reputation. Search engine optimization and social media optimization are two major processes used for search engine marketing.

PPC stands for pay-per-click, a model of internet marketing in which advertisers pay a fee each time one of their ads is clicked. Essentially, it's a way of buying visits to your site, rather than attempting to “earn” those visits organically. Search engine advertising is one of the most popular forms of PPC.
