What does Alt text mean?

Alt text is an image attribute in HTML that allows you to provide “alternative text” for web images that will display if the image doesn't load. Or (most importantly) it will get read out by screen readers so vision impaired users can experience the image, website, and context without needing to see it

The alt text (alt for "alternative") is the content of the 'alt' attribute of the IMG element (the most used element in HTML to display images). The alt text is used by some devices as a replacement for the image it is associated to. This is particularly useful to people who can not see images, especially those who use computers while being blind or having severe vision impairments.

ALT tags or ALT attributes are "alternative text " for an image. ALT tags are used to describe the image or what the image is representing. One of the main purposes of ALT tags is for the benefit of visually impaired users who use screen readers when browsing. ALT tags are also used for those who surf the web with images turned off or users that have text only browsers.
