What is an organic search result?

When a search engine returns its search results, it gives you two types: organic and paid. Organic search results are the Web page listings that most closely match the user's search query based on relevance. Also called “natural” search results, ranking high in the organic results is what SEO is all about.

Organic search results are the listings on a search engine results page (SERP) that appear because of factors such as relevance to the search term and valid search engine optimization (SEO) efforts rather than because of search engine marketing (SEM) or trickery.

The position of a link on a search results page is important. Depending on the search term, organic search results often make up only a small portion of the page.

An organic search result is what you can see in the search engine result page of your certain search query.

When you type on the search bar "How to learn coding" it'll probably appears with a listing of web pages related to the term in that way2023751005_searchengineresultpagewithasearchquery.thumb.png.e9be97b09e47ab8af894acbc1a245323.png2021443198_anorganicsearchengineresultpagewithasearchquery.thumb.png.b13511463a96914562570440e330a987.png.

Then you will find out that there are distinctly 2 different types of snippets shown in the result page. One is the pages marked as "AD" and other sites without the mark on the left top.

The pages with the AD mark clearly aren't an organic search result as you may notice. Because they are shown not organically, but because they are popping there with their PPC (Keyword advertising) on the keyword query typed on the search bar. Thus they aren't organic pages, rather they are a paid search result.

Scrolling down a bit, then you will find the pages without the AD mark. They are obviously not associated with any paid advertising or sponsored channels to be shown. Rather, they appear in the list just organically without an exchange of a monetary value. Thus they are organic and pages that are ranked on the organic search result page.

Organic search, also known as natural search, refers to unpaid search results. In contrast to paid search results (pay-per-click advertising), which are populated via an auction system, organic search results are based on relevance to the user's search query, links and domain authority and other organic ranking factors.
