This practice began when Google started penalizing sites that purchase site- wide text link ads to get lots of incoming links in a hurry. Unscrupulous webmasters realized that this could be used against competitor sites by linking to them instead of their own site. Google claim they have measures in place to prevent this practice from unfairly damaging a site’s PageRank.

Google Bowling – building bad backlinks to a competitor website to lower his ranking. I can’t tell you the exact number of bad backlinks you need to build to harm a competitor’s website. All I can say is that depends from case to case. Usually, we take in consideration the number of “good backlinks” that points to the website and the domain strength (DA).

Google Bowling, also called "reverse SEO" Google bowling is a technique used to building a bad link to decrease the rank of your competitor with the help of black hat SEO technique. Most of the SEO professionals use this technique to lower the rank other websites. Google Bowling is considered as Blackhat SEO. it is difficult to say the exact number of Bad links required to harm your competitor’s website it all depends on the different cases

Google Bowling is the manipulation of external ranking factors that Google uses to penalize a site against its competitors (or someone you don't like or want to appear in SERP). There is one thing that protects websites against Google bowling - a solid back link profile of its own.
